In this special London Jazz Festival show, he brings his captivating collaboration with acclaimed pianist Zoe Rahman. Ensembles such as the RNCM Jazz Collective and Big Band provide opportunities to perform to public audiences throughout the year, with our Big Band regularly featuring distinguished guest artists. Recent vistors include pianists John Taylor, Gwilym Simcock, Alex Wilson, and Nikki Iles, guitarist Mike Walker, drummer Clark Tracey, trumpeter Ryan Quigley, and singers Clare Teal and Matt Ford.
These help you develop a knowledge of core jazz repertoire, understand how to approach improvisation, and explore the practical aspects of putting together a jazz performance. You’ll also receive specialist tuition from visiting artists and musicians prolific on the professional jazz scene which can include participation in masterclasses and performance projects. Recent visiting tutors include saxophonists Tim Garland, Bob Mintzer and Chris Potter, and vibraphonist Victor Mendoza. A recent collaboration with MOBO award-winning ensemble Empirical, themselves Trinity Laban Jazz alumni, saw students and professionals alike experimenting with traditional and contemporary approaches to jazz. The energy and dynamism of these young musicians characterises our commitment to innovative performance.

With Andy Davies Alex Webb , Andy Champion and Alfonso Vitale the group traces the explosive music of Cannonball Adderley from his first session as leader in 1955 through work with Miles Davis to the soul-jazz of the 1960s. Alina Bzhezhinska returns to Kings Place with the HipHarpCollective to present her new album Reflections, a combination of Afro-harping, acid jazz, free-form experiment and Trip Hop. Maya Youssef is hailed as ‘queen of the qanun,’ the 78-stringed Middle Eastern plucked zither. Maya’s intense and thoughtful music is rooted in the Arabic classical tradition but forges pathways into jazz, Western classical and flamenco styles. Following the success of https://www.theresearchgopop.com/ Time, the College has been working in partnership with the Arts Council of Wales to take our students and leading international artists on tour to arts venues across Wales, each term. The summer term culminates in a jazz festival at the College and both the festival and tour offer students a platform to showcase their work to new audiences and gain valuable professional experience. Previous headliners include Quercus, Jean Toussaint’s Roots and Herbs, Vento Em Maderia, Get the Blessing, John Taylor and Darius Brubeck Quartet. The department also regularly performs at jazz festivals across the UK, including London Jazz.
